Fish must be entered in the division in which it was caught; i.e., Unlimited, 50 lb. test, 30 lb. test, 20 lb. .test, etc.

Line Class Categories:

In the six line class categories, Unlimited through 8 lb. test there are no restrictions as to rods, reels, baits, or lures. Entries are classified according to line test. Wire or metallic line and/or power reels may not be used.

  • Unlimited Test: Line test must be over 50 lb. Leader, or any material, shall not exceed 20 feet and double line should not exceed 20 feet.
  • 50 LB. Test: Line test must be more than 30 lb. test and shall not exceed 50 lb. test. Leader, of any material, shall not exceed 20 feet and double line should not exceed 20 feet.
  • 30 LB. Test: Line test must be more than 20 lb. test and shall not exceed 30 lb. test. Leader, of any material, shall not exceed 20 feet and double line should not exceed 20 feet.
  • 20 LB. Test: Line test must be more than 12 lb. test and shall not exceed 20 lb. test. Leader, of any material, shall not exceed 15 feet; double line should not exceed 15 feet.
  • 12 LB. Test: Line test must be more than 8 lb. test and shall not exceed 12 lb. test. Leader, of any material, shall not exceed 15 feet; double line should not exceed 15 feet.
  • 8 LB. Test: Line test must be maximum 8 lb. test. Leader, of any material, shall not exceed 15 feet; double line should not exceed 15 feet.

Artificial Casting Divisions:

In the three casting divisions, artificial lures must be used. Casting and retrieving must be done manually by the angler. Trolled lures or stationary lures that are given action by the water’s current may not be entered in the casting division. Casting tackle must be made available to the weigh master upon request. Combinations of natural bait and lures may not be used in spin, plug, and fly divisions.

Spin: All spinning tackle designed specifically for casting of artificial lures may be used. Line of non-metallic material may be of any strength not exceeding 12 lb. test. Leaders of any breaking strength and double line combined may not exceed the length of the rod and only 18 inches may be of metallic material. Total length of rod butt, reel seat, and fore grip may not exceed 18 inches.

Plug: Rod must be one-handed casting type and not exceed 7 feet overall length. Butt, including reel seat, must not exceed 12 inches in length. Reels must be revolving spool type, level wind, and specifically designed for plug casting. Line of non-metallic material must not exceed 15 lb. test. Leader and double line combined may not exceed the length of the rod, and only 18 inches of leader may be of metallic material.

Fly: Rod, reel, line, and leader must be of conventional type, specifically designed for fly casting. Non-metallic leaders must be attached to the fly line. If tapered or level leaders are used, the tippit must be at least 15 inches and tippit must not exceed 20 lb. test. An additional tippit, not exceeding 12 inches of any material may be added to this leader. Lures must be of single hook only and designed for fly casting. The butt of the fly rod may not extend more than two inches below the reel seat.

Junior Division: Any youngster who Is between the ages of 10, and have not yet reached their 15th birthday at the start of the tournament is eligible to compete and is required to remain in the junior division for the length of the tournament. Although weight requirements are different for juniors, the tackle requirements remain the same as for the adult line class categories. Juniors will be competing in their separate line class categories.

PeeWee Division: Any youngster who has not reached their 10th birthday by at the start of the tournament is eligible to compete and is required to remain in the peewee division for the length of the tournament. Peewee entries do not have any weight or length requirements. Peewee anglers are ineligible for “Most Releases” awards. Peewees will be competing in their separate line class categories.
